Financial aid For U.S. Students

Students who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States and are in need of financial aid can explore various funding programs and find tax information.

Financial aid options

As a publicly funded institution, the university is not able to offer direct financial aid to international students, however, U of T is a Title IV eligible institution that participates in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan student aid program. The university is also an approved institution for the administration of subsidized and unsubsidized U.S. Direct Loans and PLUS Direct Loans.

Dual citizens

If you are a dual citizen of the United States and Canada (or a US citizen and Canadian permanent resident), you may be eligible to apply for U.S. federal loans and Canadian provincial/territorial financial aid programs—but you cannot obtain financial aid from both the U.S. and Canada. We recommend that you research and determine the program that is best suited for your financial aid needs.
