Admissions Timeline As an International Student
Before your last year of high school Think about what you want to study
Explore our broad range of program options by visiting our Undergraduate Programs page. Browse our programs by areas of interest to find the U of T program that’s right for you.
Sep - Oct Review admission requirements
Check the eligibility criteria for the U of T programs you are interested in. Besides meeting our general admission requirements, you may need to provide specific prerequisite courses. Some program areas also require supplemental information, like personal profiles or statements of interest.
Sep - Oct Learn about fees
Familiarize yourself with the fees associated with attending U of T, like tuition, ancillary fees, residence, meal plans and other program fees.
Sep - Jan Submit your application
Once you have reviewed admission requirements for the program(s) you are interested in, submit your application on the OUAC website. Be sure to review the OUAC website for application instructions and important deadlines.
Nov - Jan Enable your JOINid
We will send you an acknowledgement email a few days after we receive your application. This email will include your JOINid and instructions on accessing the Join U of T applicant portal or the Engineering Applicant Portal.
Nov - May Track your application
After you have enabled your JOINid, you will have access to the Join U of T applicant portal—and the Engineering Applicant Portal, if you applied to Engineering. You will be able to track the status of your applications through these sites.
Nov - Feb Complete next steps
Depending on your academic background and the program you are applying to, you may need to complete some next steps—like submitting transcripts, English language tests, or supplemental applications. Find all the next steps on Join U of T or the Engineering Applicant Portal.
Jan - Mar Apply for residence
Living in residence is a great way to start your university experience. If you are looking to live on campus, the deadline to apply for residence is March 31.
Jan - May Wait for an admission decision
Admission decisions are released in rounds between January and May. If you applied to more than one area, you may not receive all the decisions at the same time. When you receive an offer depends on several things—like the program you applied to, when your prerequisite grades are available, or how competitive the program is.
Jan - Apr Accept your offer of admission
Congratulations! You can review and accept your offer on the Join U of T applicant portal or the Engineering Applicant Portal. Be sure to accept your offer before the deadline stated in your offer letter.
Feb - May Pay your admission deposit
Your offer letter may indicate that you need to pay an admission deposit to secure your place at U of T. You will pay your admission deposit through ACORN, our student information system. Review your offer letter for more information on paying your admission deposit.
Feb - May Apply for your study permit
International students planning to study in Canada generally require a valid study permit issued by the Canadian government. As part of the study permit application, you may also be required to submit a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL), which you will receive from the university after you accept your offer of admission and pay the admission deposit.
May - Aug Satisfy your offer conditions
Most admission decisions are based on interim marks, and the majority of our offers are conditional on achieving acceptable final standing. You are expected to maintain consistent academic performance during your high school (and post-secondary, if applicable) studies. You must also satisfy any other conditions specified on your offer of admission, such as English language tests, if applicable.
Jun - Jul Transfer credits
You may be eligible for transfer credit if you have taken any Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses during high school. Transfer credits are assessed after admission.
Jul Enrol in classes
Course enrolment happens in the summer and works differently depending on your faculty or campus. Your faculty or campus will send you more information about registering for classes.
Jun - Jul Pay your tuition and residence deposit
You will need to pay your tuition and ancillary fees by the deadline according to your division or faculty. If you are staying in residence, you will also need to pay the deposit as stated in your residence offer email.
Sep Begin your journey with us!
