What are the humanities?
The humanities explore how people understand and shape human experience, through language, ideas and culture. You’ll develop the ability to think critically and communicate clearly, essential skills in a world shaped by technology-driven change and global complexity. As our world evolves, the need for people who can ask meaningful questions, connect ideas and lead with empathy is more important than ever.

Literature, language & culture programs across our three campuses
Each U of T campus offers distinctive programs that reflect local strengths and global perspectives, while also sharing offerings in common areas like literature, philosophy and cultural studies. You also have the freedom to design your own degree--choose to specialize in one area or pair a major or minor with another field to broaden your perspective.
