University & College Transfer Credits

Post-secondary transfer credit policy

Transfer credit is assessed after admission. If you have completed post-secondary studies that might qualify for credit, your offer of admission will include instructions on completing an online transfer credit assessment application. You will be notified of any transfer credits to which you are entitled soon after we receive your completed transfer credit application. You do not have the option of forfeiting transfer credit for post-secondary studies. Some program areas do not consider applications from students who have previously attended other post-secondary institutions. Be sure the program in which you are interested will consider your application.

Post-secondary transfer credit process

First, you need to apply to the university and follow the application next steps. You can begin the transfer credit process after you have received an offer of admission.

  • Check your eligibility

Transfer credit eligibility depends on the faculty/campus involved and the type of assessment required. You can use U of T's Transfer Explorer as a guide to check if completed coursework may be eligible for transfer credits at the university. Please note that you must still submit an assessment to have your coursework officially reviewed and approved for transfer credit, and that your assessment results may be different than what you see on Transfer Explorer.

    Use the Transfer Explorer

  • Accept your offer of admission

You can review and accept your offer of admission on the Join U of T applicant portal or the Engineering Applicant Portal. Be sure to accept your offer before the deadline stated in your offer letter. Transfer credits can be assessed after you have an offer of admission.

  • Complete the transfer credit application

If applicable, you can find the transfer credit application on Join U of T. Please note that a fee will apply; this fee may vary based on your faculty/campus.

  • Submit supporting documents

In order to be assessed for transfer credit, you will need to submit supporting documents, such as official transcripts and detailed course outlines. Please refer to your offer of admission for more details on which documents you will need to submit. You must arrange for your transcript(s) to be sent to U of T by the deadline indicated in your offer of admission.

  • Receive and review your transfer credit assessment

Transfer credit assessment processing times may vary depending on your faculty/campus. Be sure to check your personal and U of T emails for any updates or next steps regarding your assessment. Enrol in courses at your assigned enrolment date and time, and review your transfer credit assessment to determine if you need to drop any courses that you have received transfer credit for.
