After you apply Admission Decisions

You will receive a decision for all applications you submit to the university. Admission decisions are generally released starting in late January and continuing through to late May. The timing of an admission decision depends on several factors, including your target programs and each program's requirements. If you do not receive an admission decision in one round, your application will be considered again in the following round.

Updates to your application status will be posted on the Join U of T applicant portal or the Engineering Applicant Portal, and you will be notified by email when an admission decision is available.

Understanding admission decisions

These are the admission decisions you could receive:

Protect yourself from fraud

Protect yourself by reviewing our best practices for understanding how the University of Toronto does and does not communicate with students.

We're thrilled that you're taking the next step in your journey at the University of Toronto!

First, carefully review your offer letter on the Join U of T applicant portal or the Engineering Applicant Portal and make sure you understand the next steps. Then, accept your offer of admission through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC). We strongly encourage you not to wait until the last minute to accept your offer.

Late responses may be accepted at the university's discretion. If you miss the deadline to respond to your offer, you may still be able to accept it. Log in to your OUAC application to check if your offer is still available.

If you are unable to begin your degree studies this fall, you may request a one-year deferral of your offer of admission. Deferrals are not guaranteed and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Deferral requests that are approved usually include deferral of eligible entrance scholarship(s) awarded and the residence guarantee, if applicable.

Your deferral request will be considered if you have:

  • accepted the offer of admission (responded Yes)
  • paid the Admission Deposit (if required)
  • met all conditions of the offer of admission
  • confirmed that you do not plan to study at another post-secondary institution

The Deferral Request Form will be available on your offer page in the Join U of T applicant portal, usually beginning in July. The deadline to request a deferral will be listed on the form. We strongly recommend submitting your request as soon as your final, official transcripts are available. The cost to request a deferral is $94.

If you have registered for courses, you must drop or withdraw from all your courses as soon as possible.

Please note:

If you miss the deadline to request a deferral, you will need to reapply for admission in a future session.

Review of decisions

All admissions decisions are final. In extraordinary circumstances, a decision may be reviewed for procedural and substantive fairness. In the case of first-entry undergraduate admissions, requests for review should be submitted through the appropriate form on the Join U of T applicant portal. For other academic programs, please consult the relevant website or office.
