Student Profile Raya

What it Takes to Work in Business

Building Beginnings

One of the most formative classes for Raya has been “RSM457: Strategic Marketing Communications,” a case-based class where students study real-world case studies to better understand the content they’re learning. She likes that the class helps them be aware of current industry trends, which is good preparation for when students prepare for interviews and eventually go out into the workplace.

Working in the Industry

As a business student, Raya knows the importance of gaining work experience in her field. So when the opportunity arose for her to be an Account Coordinator Intern at The Local Collective Advertising & Creative Agency, she took it. From this experience, she learned how to use data for storytelling and how to appropriately communicate with clients, which have been strong transferable skills for her in other areas. She also landed a summer work-study position as a Marketing and Communications Assistant at Rotman Commerce.

Like-Minded Friendships

Though she’s business-oriented, Raya also has a passion for art, which she’s been able to express as the VP of the Rotman Commerce Arts Group. She likes that this group fosters a creative environment and provides a creative outlet for busy students to slow down. The club hosts events like paint night, talent shows, case competitions and networking events. Students are able to showcase their art, see the work of their fellow students, and connect with others over their shared love of creative expression.
