Alumni Profile Anjali

From undergraduate involvement to graduate success
Class of 2022

Foundational learning

Anjali knew she'd want to study in the social sciences coming into U of T, but didn't know which areas specifically would be of interest. She credits the Faculty of Arts and Science's flexibility for allowing students to take courses in a variety of areas, which eventually led her to discovering her academic passions. For example, one of her favorite classes she took was "Economics & Sociology," which she says gave her a different perspective through which to see economics, and set the foundation of courses she would later take in graduate school. Other formative classes for her were "Race, Immigration, and Crime," and "Crime and Mind," both of which had engaged and empathetic professors and material that would shape her future studies in academia.

Work experience and community building

Throughout her undergraduate years, Anjali was very involved, both in and out of the classroom. Wanting to gain paid work experience, she worked as a Research Assistant and with the Office of Student Recruitment (OSR) as a Campus Tour Guide and administrative Work Study student. Working as a research assistant, she learned how to synthesize vast amounts of information and analyze it, something that would later becoming crucial in her graduate studies. At the OSR, she honed her organization, communication and time management skills.

Additionally, looking to build community and participate in student life, Anjali joined the New College Athletics Counsel, served as an orientation leader for two frosh weeks, and volunteered as a student ambassador for the "Ask Me Anything" booths, located around campus during frosh week.

Post-graduate success

After graduating from U of T in 2022, Anjali went on to get her Master’s degree in International Relations in Geneva, Switzerland. Towards the end of her degree, she interned at the UN, and now works as an intern at Interpol.

"Get involved as much as you can - U of T offers so much more than just academics, and education outside the classroom (research, part-time jobs, etc) is just as important as what you learn in your courses."
