Inspiring Courses
Reflecting on all his classes, Danial says his favourite has to be “Conducting,” which was the first 9am class he really enjoyed. It was a beginner course for conducting and he found the professor to be the most inspiring figure in all his schooling. He cites her ability to turn a 9am class into an opportunity for students to find themselves as artists as a major highlight of the course. For example, one lesson involved mime techniques, to teach conducting in a fun and engaging way. This was a course that instilled confidence and excitement in Danial.
Impressive Opportunities
Building off his work in his undergrad studies and extracurriculars, Danial was commissioned by the National Youth Orchestra of Canada to write a piece for them, going into his third year. To do this, he worked with a conductor who had experience working with the Philadelphia Orchestra, gaining important industry insights and connections. He enjoyed working with a big team, and even having the CEO of the orchestra showing him around. He says having his piece performed all over Canada was a dream come true.
Entrepreneurial Dreams
Having professional experiences to work on music for other organizations, something close to Danial’s heart now is his own music. Now graduated, he’s currently working on the first album with his metal band, which he started with two of his composition peers at the start of their 4th year. The crew has just received funding for the 8-song album, which will be called “Ash Lake” (dropping soon).

“Take advantage of the opportunity to make as many friends as you can - you’ll have more fun and find more networking opportunities”
