For over 400 years, the Caribbean was, and is a nexus for the meeting and mixing of many cultures. In The First Book of the West Indies (1956) celebrated poet Langston Hughes describes Trinidad: “Its official language is English, but people of many different races and nationalities—English, Spanish, Portuguese, Negro, East Indian, Chinese, and American—live and work there.”

With that in mind, this bursary will be awarded to the student who submits a research paper that significantly advances this field of inquiry.
